Here at Stand, we have a morning Stand Up meeting first thing where one of us presents on a topic of our choice, such as talking about which podcasts we’re listening to, great recipes or book recommendations. This week’s was led by Lucy Chapple, our head of client strategy, who’s topic of choice was supporting small business.
Since we started working with The Reading Agency last year, one message has really stuck in my mind.
“We should be encouraged to read in a way that feels right for us”
Reading in a way that feels right for us. Not right for our school teachers, or well-meaning parents, friends or the people we follow on Instagram. For some, that might be a newspaper. For others, it might be a comic, a short story, or the biography of a sports star. A few might choose to read War and Peace, but I wonder how many of us have struggled on with a book because we’ve believed without question that it’s the ‘right’ thing to read?
This weekend, Team Stand was proud to have been part of global history as we joined London’s Women’s March and stood up for solidarity and against inequality.
We sang, chanted, celeb spotted, made new friends and even spoke to people on the tube. Knowing we were marching alongside 2.6 million people worldwide – all peacefully and energetically protesting against hate and oppression – was incredible.
While we’d rather the world’s most powerful person hadn’t made the misogynistic or racist comments he has – signage sure did show just how much people across the world are prepared to speak out in defiance against hate.
Here are Stand’s favourite moments from 2017’s best day yet…
How and why did you get involved in PR?
Whilst studying economics and politics at university, I was always intrigued by the current affairs stories I read in print and online media. I knew I wanted a role that would challenge me and enable me to work with organisations that have a story to tell. After a big search for my first PR role, I was really excited to land a paid internship here at Stand Agency.
What attracted you to work at Stand Agency?
I researched the work that Stand does and I was drawn to their client list. It was full of organisations with great causes that were having a positive influence on society.
