Disrupting the banking market

Posted by Anthony Di NataleTagged , , ,

I was walking through my hometown in Peterborough last week when I stumbled across a brand-new Metro Bank outlet. It’s a pretty impressive building, and as the Bank’s 50th branch, it celebrated with a two-day grand opening party.

Despite Metro Bank’s self-proclamation as the ‘revolution in British banking’, I noticed most passersby staring in bewilderment. It was clear that most people had never seen or heard of Metro Bank before.

When it opened in 2010, Metro Bank was the first new high street bank to launch in over 150 years. It was viewed as a legitimate ‘challenger’ to the Big Four (HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds, RBS), offering branches open seven days a week, walk-in appointments and straightforward products. Different, yes. ‘Revolutionary’, not so sure.

PR and politics

Well it’s been another eventful June, and we’re only half-way through! We have a hung parliament, or maybe not – we’ll find out next week if the DUP emerge as the Conservative’s ace in the hole. The second, far more optimistic view, is of a fresh new world of independence, full of free trade deals and hearty Britishness.

Financial Services – a knight in shining armour?

Posted by Anthony Di Natale

“Oh no, the economy’s going to pot… again!” is what many of you may be thinking at the moment, and you have good reason given the current state of alarm hovering over the global economic climate.

There’s a surfeit of financial ‘crises’ sparking across the different markets at the moment that have many economists running around like headless chickens. But what’s triggered it all? To put it simply, a concoction of China’s market slump, concerns around US growth, and a devastating fall in demand for oil, is making the global economy extremely volatile.

Time to give something back

Posted by Anthony Di Natale

Last week I volunteered at my first Contact the Elderly tea party. I will admit I don’t do an awful lot for charity, and like many others, I’d probably try to justify this by explaining how busy I am throughout the week. This of course is a rubbish excuse, and if you find yourself saying the same thing every time you snub an opportunity to give something back to those who are less fortunate, it might be time to make a change.
