Contact the Elderly: When an elderly Bournemouth woman was discovered in her home six years after passing away, we made sure national charity Contact the Elderly was the first to comment – and offer a solution. Our fast-moving press office and hard-hitting news commentary ensured Contact’s message about loneliness and isolation among older people was heard above the noise. Strong relationships with key national journalists who came straight to us for regular insight and commentary kept this topic firmly in the spotlight in the lead up to the charity’s 50th jubilee.

Our sharp-eyed media monitoring also helped us enlist celebrities such as Bill Bailey and Sherlock’s Louise Brealey to support the cause, and we were quick to plug Contact in to any relevant social media conversations and debates. Ongoing national coverage hits, including ITN, Sky News, BBC, Radio 5 Live, The Independent, Daily Express and Mail Online, have kept this issue to the fore.
